Step1: Guide to buy a diamond
Step 1: Narrow down on the four basic parameters namely
1.1 Shape
1.2 Carat size
1.3 Color
1.4 Clarity.
These parameters in combination with your budget will put you in the ballpark area of the type of diamond that will suit to your requirement.
Once the 4 basic parameters are defined, we can take Step 2: to filter on all the detailed parameters to find the best available piece that matches within our requirement.
1.1 Shape
Virtually all diamond shapes sold for use in jewellery are one of these ten diamond shapes:
1.2 Carat Weight
Diamonds are sold by the carat (shown as ct.), which is actually a unit of weight, though most think of a carat in terms of size. Carat weight Or Size is one of the most important determinants of price in diamonds. The value of a diamond increases substantially with size, this increase is not linear but exponential.
1.3 Color
Mainstream diamonds, color wise range from being colorless (absolutely white) to being yellow. In terms of value, the value of a diamond increases as it becomes more colorless and lowers in value as color (yellowness) increases.
1.4 Clarity
Because they are formed deep within the earth, under extreme heat and pressure; virtually all diamonds contain "birthmarks"; small imperfections inside the diamond (called inclusions), or on its surface (called blemishes). Clarity refers to the degree to which these imperfections are present.
